Being too dogmatic about cyclones is not wise. They can be stressful events and there is much hyperbole in the warnings and the accounts of their impacts. Even after the event, claims about the severity of damage and the speed of winds vary considerably. According to the Bureau of Meteorology:

The Queensland World Heritage Wet Tropics area spans much of the Queensland coast, from Rossville just south of Cooktown, down to Paluma north of Townsville. The Wet Tropics Management team published a paper on the geology of the region, explaining it well in layman’s terms. That makes much sense and provides much of the basic information needed for this sketch.

Matt Hyde is probably unknown to 99% of people in Mission Beach. He was an action man rather than a talker or dreamer or someone who was gunna do. His skilled work in bringing together Council Planners and the region’s landowners saved hundreds of hectares of rainforest during his time in our region.
